About: This event will provide a platform for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore the implications of the NYSED Blue Ribbon Commission’s recommendations and envision a future that meets the evolving needs of our students. We will host an expert panel to hear perspectives on how the Blue Ribbon Commission’s recommendations align with the goals and priorities of school districts and BOCES. Our panel of participants will include stakeholder groups, including teachers, board of education members, and others. Invited Panelists include:

  1. Mike Cornell (Superintendent, Hamburg CSD & President, Erie Niagara School Superintendents Association)
  2. Dr. Michael Capuana (District Superintendent/CEO, Erie 1 BOCES)
  3. Leslie Tobin (Vice President, Niagara/Orleans Association of School Boards & President of the Lockport City School District BOE)
  4. Dr. Genelle Morris (Superintendent, Olean CSD)
  5. Jaime Ciffone (Executive Vice President, NYSUT)
  6. Betty Haynes (NYSCSS 2024 Social Studies Teacher of the Year for middle school and the Gilder Lehrman 2024 NYS History Teacher of the Year)

This panel will be moderated by Dr. Brian Graham, Superintendent of Grand Island Central Schools.

We will be focusing on the following key questions:

  • Probable Outcomes: What are the most likely trends, opportunities and/or challenges that may arise as we implement the Blue Ribbon Commission’s recommendations?
  • Possible Opportunities: How can we leverage these recommendations to create new opportunities for students, educators, and communities?
  • Preferable Pathways: What steps should we take to ensure that the implementation of these recommendations is equitable, accessible, and effective?

Don’t miss this chance to be part of a conversation that could influence the direction of education in the years to come!
